Eastern: Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm
Wainwright Elementary: Wednesdays, 3:00-4:30 pm
BMIGL's mentoring program consists of a small group of men discussing topics of interest to a group of male high school students. The program’s goal is to help students make decisions that will increase their GPA’s, decrease poor behavior decisions, help students avoid being a “drop out” statistic and set goals on how to become productive citizens in their community for the future.
The initial BMIGL Mentoring Program at Sexton High School in the Spring of 2008, inspired the “Take The Test Program”. Some of the students knew the value of taking ACT & SAT tests, but all of them did not. Most did not know they could take it more than once a year and could start taking it as early as the 6th grade. Some did not know it costs $50 to take the test and some study sessions for the exams have a fee. The “Take The Test Program” will educate all students about these and other facts and pay for some “at risk” students to take the exams at no costs.
Although, this program is basically a group mentoring program, men will be encouraged to have a one-on-one relationship with one or two students. This program may also develop other ways to encourage male students to make good decisions.
