Challenge to Fathers: Take Your Child to School
1st Day of School- September 6 , 2011

Black Men Incorporated of Greater Lansing and the Lansing School District are dedicated to improving parent involvement in the new school year. To this end, we are challenging fathers to bring their children to school on the first day, September 6th, in order to encourage their youngster's success from the start and initiate a positive relationship with their child's teachers and the school. We ask that fathers, grandfathers, and guardians escort your child into the building, introduce yourself to the teachers and administrators, and help us promote a productive, healthy and safe learning environment throughout the year.

Inspiration:

John Edmond is the father of Amaia Edmond, who was tragically slain on July 22, 2010. Amaia was an exemplary student at Wexford Elementary and her father’s engagement in her education was a big part of her success. John visited Wexford elementary often and became woven into the fabric of her classrooms. He has promised Amaia’s classmates to continue to stay involved in their academic journey and now wants to inspire others to do the same. John has dedicated himself to increasing parental involvement in the Lansing School District, and joins BMIGL and the Lansing School District in challenging fathers to become a more active participant in their children’s education.
